The Queensland Building and Construction Commission
Changes in the Building and Construction Industry
On 29 August 2013 the Queensland Building Services Authority Amendment Act 2013 (Qld) was passed. The Act, which is yet to commence, establishes the Queensland Building and Construction Commission.
The Queensland Building and Construction Commission will replace the Queensland Building Services Authority and will be comprised of two (2) bodies:
- the Queensland Building and Construction Board; and
- the Commissioner, and the organisation unit under the control of the Commissioner.
This reform is the first part of the Queensland Government’s “Ten Point Action Plan”, developed in response to the recommendations from the Inquiry into the Operation and Performance of the Queensland Building Services Authority. The “Ten Point Action Plan” also includes a review of the current licensing and compliance systems, the Queensland Home Warranty Scheme and the role of private certifiers.
It is anticipated that the Queensland Building and Construction Commission will commence operation by the end of 2013.
As a consequence of the Queensland Government’s “Ten Point Action Plan”, the building and construction industry is likely to experience significant changes in the near future. If you would like to discuss the proposed changes, please contact:
